DOMINICAN REPUBLIC :: 38th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship — Team Jamaica’s manager and junior golf convener, Alison Reid, has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the country’s young golfers following the 38th Caribbean Amateur Junior Golf Championship, held at the Playa Dorado Golf Club in the Dominican Republic.
Despite challenging playing conditions, the majority of the Jamaican players improved their scores over the three-day tournament, which concluded on Thursday. All three newcomers also achieved personal best performances.
“Our juniors did well today. They worked hard, they did their best, and I’m really proud of their effort,” Reid said.

Looking ahead, Reid said she and first-time team coach Kevin Cunningham are optimistic about the future of Jamaica’s junior golf programme.
“We are very encouraged. Coach Kevin Cunningham and I are very encouraged by what we’ve seen and the fact that if we continue to build, starting next week, as soon as we can after getting back, I think we can have children that can place. We’re also looking for other juniors to help us get to the point where we will have a full team again,” she said.
Reid described the championship as a valuable learning experience for the young golfers.
“This was a great experience for our juniors. They all improved, and it was good. It was a good championship. I think we did the best that we could and I’m very proud of my team,” she added.
