Poland – Jamaica’s Kishane Thompson delivered a blistering performance on Saturday, silencing doubters and sprinting to victory over American superstar Noah Lyles in the 100 metres at the Silesia Diamond League in Poland.
The highly anticipated rematch came just weeks after the Paris 2024 Olympic final, where Lyles edged Thompson by five-thousandths of a second in a heart-stopping finish.
But this time, there was no catching the Jamaican speedster.
Thompson stormed to the win in 9.87 seconds, equaling the meeting record set last year by fellow American Fred Kerley.
Lyles, who tried to chase down Thompson once again, had too much ground to make up and had to settle for second in 9.90.
Kenny Bednarek, who was previously unbeaten over 100m this season, came in third with 9.96, just edging out Christian Coleman, who posted the same time in fourth.
Thompson, now officially the fastest man in the world this year, continues to rise as a serious threat on the global sprinting stage, carrying the Jamaican flag with pride.
The sprint rivalry is real, and the road to the next clash is already heating up.
