St. Catherine, Jamaica – The Bog Walk Gorge turned into a scene of tragedy on Friday afternoon when a massive boulder tumbled from the hillside, crushing a moving vehicle and fatally injuring the driver.
Dead is 61-year-old Linton Davis, a labourer from Greater Portmore, St. Catherine.
Reports from the Bog Walk Police are that about 1:30 p.m., Davis was driving his Isuzu motor truck along the winding Bog Walk Gorge roadway when the unthinkable happened — a boulder broke loose from the hillside and came crashing down onto his vehicle.
The impact smashed the top of the truck, leaving Davis severely injured and trapped inside.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Davis was rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The incident has left residents and motorists in shock, many expressing concern about the dangers of traveling through the Gorge during rainy or unstable weather conditions.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident, while calls grow louder for safety measures to be implemented along the notorious roadway.
