Manchester, Jamaica – A political meeting ended in bloodshed on Friday night after a deadly altercation between two men, both reportedly supporters of the ruling Jamaica Labour Party (JLP), at a newly opened constituency office in Sedburgh, Manchester.
The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old Andrew Hendricks, a farmer of Christiana in Manchester.
According to police reports, the incident unfolded around 8:50 p.m. during a political gathering at the Jamaica Labour Party’s Manchester North Eastern constituency office.
Eyewitnesses say Hendricks got into a heated confrontation with another man. It is alleged that Hendricks attacked the individual with a knife, stabbing him once. The man reportedly managed to disarm Hendricks and turned the weapon on him — inflicting multiple stab wounds.
Hendricks was rushed to the Percy Junor Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A senior police source confirmed that both men were believed to be JLP supporters and that the altercation may have stemmed from a personal dispute.
Police are now on the hunt for the man involved in the stabbing and are urging him to turn himself in immediately.
