Zurich, Switzerland – Saint Lucia’s golden girl, Julien Alfred, once again lit up the track with a blistering run, storming to victory in the women’s 100m at the Wanda Diamond League Finals on Thursday night.
Alfred, the reigning Olympic champion who made history last year by winning Saint Lucia’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in Paris, clocked an impressive 10.76 seconds at the famed Letzigrund Stadium.
The race was not without drama. Ivorian veteran Marie-Josée Ta Lou-Smith was initially disqualified for a false start, forcing a restart. When the gun fired again, Alfred – starting in lane four – exploded out of the blocks and powered her way to the line, holding firm under pressure to seal another stunning victory.
Jamaica’s Tia Clayton claimed second in a swift 10.84 seconds, while Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith rounded out the podium with 10.94 seconds.
Alfred’s triumph serves as the perfect momentum boost as she prepares for the World Championships in Tokyo set for September 13–21, where all eyes will once again be on the Saint Lucian sprint queen.
