KINGSTON, Jamaica — Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent delivered a dazzling performance on Thursday, storming to victory in the women’s 100m hurdles final at the Wanda Diamond League in Zürich, Switzerland.
Nugent clocked 12.30 seconds (-0.6m/s), equalling her season’s best to secure the prestigious title on day two of the meet, staged at the famous Letzigrund Stadium. Her time was just shy of the 12.29 seconds meet record set by Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan in 2022.
The triumph earned Nugent the coveted Diamond Trophy and a US$100,000 cash prize, solidifying her status among the world’s elite hurdlers.
Meanwhile, Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji thrilled the home crowd with a national record run of 12.40 seconds for second place, while American Grace Stark edged out Jamaica’s Danielle Williams for third in 12.44 seconds.
The defending world champion, Williams, finished fourth in 12.44 seconds, narrowly missing the podium.
Nugent’s victory adds another golden chapter to Jamaica’s rich track and field legacy, with fans celebrating her as the nation’s latest global star.
