Linstead, St Catherine – A tight-knit Linstead community is reeling after the body of a young fruit vendor and construction worker, Kaleave Thomas, was discovered early Sunday morning in the troubled district of Banbury.
The 20-year-old, originally from Brown’s Hall but living in Vanity Fair, Linstead, was reportedly on his way to visit his girlfriend when tragedy struck. His lifeless body was found lying on its back beside a frequently used unpaved roadway, marred by multiple gunshot wounds to the head. A stone was also discovered near his head, and authorities noted what appeared to be signs of blunt-force trauma.
According to the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), residents of Banbury alerted police after hearing explosions in the area. “Upon the arrival of the lawmen, Thomas was seen in a pool of blood with multiple gunshot wounds to the head. He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. The investigation is ongoing,” the JCF stated.
Thomas, known for his industrious spirit, made his living selling fruits in areas such as Portmore, Washington Boulevard, and Half-Way Tree. During the off-season, he took on construction jobs to make ends meet.
He was in a relationship with social media personality Shana-kay Hanson, widely recognized online as ‘Itsthickiana’. Hanson, who resides in Banbury, was devastated by the news. She revealed that Thomas frequently visited her and was likely en route to her home when he was killed.
“I warned him not to travel through Banbury at night,” Hanson said in an emotional interview. “When he didn’t show up Saturday night, I thought he had gone to his relatives’ place in Vanity Fair. I called him around 2AM and got no answer.”
Hanson described Thomas as “very gentle, loving, respectful, and kind,” adding that he was a hardworking man who rarely stayed idle.
Reports suggest Thomas had visited a grieving friend in Victoria, another community in Linstead, earlier on Saturday night. He is believed to have taken a familiar shortcut through Banbury to return to his girlfriend’s home, but never made it.
As the investigation continues, residents are left shaken and anxious. The tragic death adds to growing concerns about safety in Banbury, an area long plagued by crime and violence.
Police are appealing to anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
