Jamaica Crime News, Westmoreland: Investigators in Savanna-la-mar, Westmoreland, say they are now in search of a prime suspect in connection with one of two shooting incidents which took place in the parish on Sunday, June 24, 2018.
The police have also reported that they cannot release the name of the suspect at this time, but they gave the names of the victims as, Marlon Beckford, otherwise called “Puggie” of 72 Dalling Street in Savanna-la-mar and 18-year-old Akeem Samuels, otherwise called “Brandon” of Riverside in Kingsvale, Hanover. Another 17-year-old teenager who was also shot and injured during the attack is presently still at the hospital in serious condition.
Reports by the police are that shortly after 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, Beckford was sitting on a bench in a yard at Dalling Street watching World Cup football when he was ambushed by two armed men.
One of the men opened fire hitting Beckford to the regions of his head and he fell to the ground. The gunmen then made their escape in the area on foot.
A few hours later gunmen struck again in the parish, this time in the troubled community of Grange Hill.
Reports are that about 3:30 p.m., Samuels and the other 17-year-old teenager were walking along a section of Bucknor’s Lane in Grange Hill when they were attacked by armed men. The gunmen again opened fire hitting both teenagers before escaping in the area.
The police were summoned and upon arrival, both victims who were found suffering from gunshot wounds were transported to the Savanna-la-mar hospital where Samuels was pronounced dead and the other teenager treated and admitted in serious condition.
The police say the man who is now being sought is wanted for questioning in connection with Beckford’s death.
