Westmoreland, Jamaica (McKoy’s News) – Westmoreland Off Duty Police Shot Two Gunmen: an unidentified gunman was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer and another injured in Savanna-la-mar,  Westmoreland on Tuesday, February 20.

One illegal firearm along with several rounds of ammunition was seized from the dead gunman.

Reports by the Savanna-la-mar police are that shortly after 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday,  the off-duty police officer was traveling home in his motor car.  On reaching a section of Lewis Street in Savanna-la-mar, his cellphone rang, while in the process of answering his phone, two men on a motorcycle rode up alongside the car.

The pillion brandished a firearm and pointed it in the directions of the officer while grabbing at his cellular phone. The policeman pulled his service revolver and challenged the gunmen who then opened fire.

A heated gunbattle ensued which resulted in the pillion being shot and killed.  The motorcycle rider was also shot and injured.

The police officer was joined by other officers, during a search, the illegal weapon was taken from the dead gunman.

The other gunman was transported to the Savanna-la-mar hospital where he was admitted under police guard.

A team from the Independent Commission of Investigation and officers attached to the Savanna-la-mar Police Division are carrying out investigations.
