A 19-year-old man from Westmoreland, identified as Demar Rankine, has been charged with wounding with intent after allegedly stabbing a relative multiple times during a dispute. Rankine, who works as a labourer and resides in Georges Plain, was officially charged following a recorded statement from the victim implicating him.
According to reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 27. An argument between Rankine and his relative escalated, leading Rankine to reportedly use a knife to inflict several stab wounds across the victim’s body.
Family members acted quickly, transporting the injured man to the hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition.
On Monday, March 31, Rankine turned himself in to the police, accompanied by a Justice of the Peace. Following the submission of a statement from the victim, Rankine was charged. His court date is currently being finalized.
The police have not disclosed further details about the nature of the dispute or the specific injuries sustained by the victim.
