The Urban Development Corporation (UDC) has announced the temporary closure of the beach at Harmony Beach Park in St. James as it works to resolve a water quality issue identified during a recent safety assessment.
According to a statement released today, the UDC discovered an external issue impacting water quality in the beach area. In response, the agency has decided to restrict access to the beach to safeguard public health and safety.
The UDC emphasized that the closure is a precautionary measure, with efforts already underway to address the matter as swiftly as possible. “We know how much the community values this space, and we assure them that every effort is being made to restore safe access,” the statement read.
Despite the beach’s closure, the rest of Harmony Beach Park remains open to the public. The UDC has not provided a timeline for the reopening of the beach but has committed to providing updates as the situation develops.
Visitors are encouraged to stay informed through official UDC communications and follow any guidelines provided to ensure their safety.
