Westmoreland, Jamaica – A Westmoreland farmer who goes by the alias ‘Fisherman’ has been charged with murder following the brazen daylight execution-style killing of a young man in the usually quiet community of Baptist Lane, Bridge Water, on Thursday, June 29, 2023.
Charged is 32-year-old Oneil Morris, otherwise called ‘Fisherman’, of Berkshire district, Dundee, Westmoreland.
Reports from the Savanna-la-Mar police are that at approximately 5:45 p.m., 22-year-old farmer Lionel Blake, popularly known as ‘Messi’, was driving along the main road when a motorcycle with two men aboard pulled up beside his vehicle.
Without warning, the pillion rider, identified as Morris, allegedly pulled a firearm and opened fire on Blake, hitting him multiple times in the upper body before the attackers made their escape.
The police were summoned, and Blake was rushed to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
An intense police investigation led to the capture of Morris during an operation on Tuesday, August 13. He was formally charged with murder on Saturday after a question-and-answer session in the presence of his attorney.
Police say another man is currently being sought in connection with the killing, and efforts are ongoing to bring him to justice.
Morris’s court date is being finalised, and he remains in custody.
