A man wanted in connection with several serious crimes was fatally shot during a police operation in Rockfort, Kingston, on Thursday morning.
Police identified the deceased as 30-year-old Faldan “Chaps” Campbell, who they say was deported from the United States in October last year for illegal entry.
Head of Police Area Four, Assistant Commissioner Michael Phipps, said officers were executing a search warrant at a house on Oliver Road when Campbell allegedly confronted them and opened fire.
The police returned gunfire, during which Campbell was shot.
A subsequent search of the property reportedly uncovered nine lead sheets containing information on hundreds of American nationals.
Police have not disclosed the full nature of the information contained on the sheets or how it may relate to the crimes for which Campbell was wanted.
