Concern is growing over a series of serious violent incidents reported across Jamaica since the start of September, including cases involving children and young people.
The issue was highlighted by Minister of National Security and Peace Dr. Horace Chang following the fatal stabbing of 13-year-old Jessina Pearce in Flanker, St. James.
There have also been two reported rape cases in Clarendon, including the alleged abduction and rape of a 10-year-old girl in Mineral Heights.
Chang says the Government will examine measures to better manage social media use among young people, amid concerns that online disputes could contribute to violence in communities.
Meanwhile, a team from the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Community Safety and Security Branch is being deployed to Clarendon to assess the recent incidents and identify areas for intervention.
