Wanted Man Charged with Murder of Female Security Guard in Flower Hill, St. James

The St. James police have arrested and charged a wanted man in connection with the murder of a female security guard, who was shot and killed in Flower Hill, St. James, on Sunday, March 17.

Facing charges of murder, wounding with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony is Javaugn Cooke, also known as ‘Jahmie’ of Flower Hill community.

He has been charged with the murder of 36-year-old security guard Nastacia Smith of Valley Heights Housing Scheme, also in Flower Hill.

Investigators also reported that another woman was shot and wounded in the incident, and she remains in the hospital in serious condition.

Reports indicate that on Sunday, around 3:30 pm, Smith and other family members were at home in Flower Hill when armed men entered the yard and opened fire on them through a bedroom window.

After the gunmen fled the scene, it was discovered that Smith and the other woman were shot multiple times in their upper bodies.

They were both rushed to the Cornwall Regional Hospital where Smith was pronounced dead, and the other female was treated and admitted in serious condition.

Cooke’s identity was released by the police as the main suspect in the murder, and he turned himself in to the authorities on Monday. He was charged on Wednesday.
