Kingston, Jamaica —Dancehall icon Vybz Kartel made a surprise appearance at the 86th annual conference of the People’s National Party (PNP) at the National Arena in Kingston on Sunday. Kartel, who was released from prison on July 31 after spending 13 years behind bars, stood alongside his attorney Isat Buchanan at the event.
Buchanan, the former chairman of the PNP’s Human Rights Commission, accompanied Kartel during the appearance. While Kartel did not speak, he showed support by making the PNP’s clenched fist symbol as Buchanan addressed the audience. Buchanan expressed that the party was committed to fighting for the youth of Jamaica, emphasizing the importance of the country’s future, freedom, justice, and adherence to the constitution. He also voiced strong support for PNP President Mark Golding.
The surprise appearance by Vybz Kartel, a highly influential figure in Jamaican music and culture, has generated widespread discussion and added a new dynamic to the political landscape, particularly among younger voters.
