St Mary, Jamaica — Police in St Mary are investigating a suspected suicide after a 75-year-old man, Rupert Brown, was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his one-bedroom house in Islington early Friday morning.
Brown was found around 6:00 a.m. by his caregiver, Colet Wint, who made the grim discovery and was left in shock. Wint explained that she had recently taken Brown to the doctor due to illness, and he had been admitted to the hospital. He was released shortly afterward, making Friday’s discovery even more tragic for those close to him. She found him hanging from the ceiling when she arrived at his house that morning.
The police have launched an investigation into the incident as they continue to gather information. Brown’s death marks a troubling moment for the Islington community, where cases of suicide among the elderly are particularly rare.
