Portland, Jamaica — Detectives in Portland have laid multiple charges against two men in connection with the alleged abduction and robbery of a woman in St Margaret’s Bay last month.
The accused have been identified as 31-year-old electrician Jerome McLean and 24-year-old labourer Kagan Gibson, both residents of Snow Hill in the parish.
According to police, the men face several serious charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, using a firearm to commit a felony, robbery with aggravation, being part of a criminal organisation, and benefiting from criminal activity.
Reports from the Port Antonio police indicate that the incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 28. A woman reportedly entered a Toyota Probox motor car operating as a taxi. During the trip, the driver allegedly diverted from the main roadway.
Investigators say that three men then appeared, and the driver reportedly produced a firearm before robbing the woman of J$40,000 and US$5. The victim was later released along the Snow Hill main road.
The matter was subsequently reported, prompting a police investigation. Authorities later identified McLean and Gibson as suspects, and both men were taken into custody during a targeted operation.
The pair were formally charged on Sunday after participating in a question-and-answer interview in the presence of their legal representatives. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
