TikToker Among Three Killed in Good Friday Highway Crashes

KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 29-year-old TikTok content creator was among three people who lost their lives in two separate motor vehicle crashes on Friday night, as Jamaica continues to battle a troubling number of road fatalities.

The deceased has been identified as Akeem Brooks, of East Avenue, Greenwich Town, Kingston 13.

According to police reports, around 8:40 p.m., Brooks was driving a 2013 Nissan Latio along the Edward Seaga Highway in the Unity Valley area of St Ann when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle. The car overturned, and Brooks was thrown from the vehicle.

He was transported to St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A preliminary investigation by the Moneague police has cited excessive speeding, loss of control, and possible driver error or negligence as potential causes of the crash.

Two Motorcyclists Killed in Trelawny Collision

Earlier that evening, around 7:15 p.m., two motorcyclists — ages 29 and 33 — were killed in a multi-vehicle collision along the Braco main road, near the Bamboo Beach entrance in Trelawny.

The crash involved a 2009 black Peterbilt tractor-trailer, a 2024 red Suzuki Baleno, and four all-terrain motorcycles (ATVs), none of which had registration plates affixed.

Rising Road Fatalities

As of April 19, 110 people have died on Jamaican roads since the start of the year, according to data from the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch of the Jamaica Constabulary Force. This marks a 19 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2024, but authorities continue to express concern over the number of fatal crashes involving motorcycles and speeding.

The police are urging motorists to exercise greater caution, obey posted speed limits, and ensure all vehicles are properly registered and roadworthy.
