The police in Westmoreland have arrested and charged two men in connection with the shooting death of a car wash operator at his place of business in Smithfield, Westmoreland, on Tuesday.
Facing charges of murder, shooting with intent, possession of a prohibited weapon, and using a firearm to commit a felony are 34-year-old Teon Campbell, a farmer from Frome district, and 25-year-old Marand Watkins, a higgler from Hudson Street in Savanna-la-Mar.
The men have been charged with the murder of 45-year-old Andre Reid, otherwise called ‘Dust’, a radiator mechanic and car wash operator from Hatfield in Smithfield, Westmoreland.
Reports indicate that around 2:00 pm, Reid was at his car wash when a motor vehicle drove up and a man alighted with a firearm. The man opened fire, hitting Reid multiple times before escaping in the waiting vehicle. The wounded Reid was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
This is not the first instance of gunmen attacking Reid. In September 2023, Reid was standing in his yard when he was chased and allegedly shot by a man from the community. Reid managed to escape and reported the incident to the police. Following an investigation, the shooter was arrested and charged. Reid had since been attending Gun Court as a complainant in this matter.
