Mandeville, Jamaica – Two people were rushed to hospital following a two-vehicle crash along the Winston Jones Highway, near Marshall’s Pen in Mandeville, on Thursday morning.
Preliminary reports are that at approximately 7:49 a.m., a Honda Vezel motor car and a Honda Grace motor car were travelling in opposite directions when they collided.
Eyewitnesses allege that the Honda Vezel was overtaking traffic when it slammed into the Grace. The impact sent the Vezel spinning off-road.
A woman who was travelling in the Honda Grace sustained serious injuries and was quickly transported to hospital.
The driver of the Vezel was trapped inside his mangled vehicle, but a brave Marshall’s Pen resident used a crowbar to pry open a jammed door and free him. A nurse on the scene also assisted before he was rushed to hospital shortly after 8:00 a.m.
Police and firefighters later responded to help clear the roadway and restore the flow of traffic.
