Two Arrested After Parachuting Off Eiffel Tower in Paris

PARIS, France — French police arrested two men early Thursday morning after they parachuted off the iconic Eiffel Tower, a police source confirmed.

Security staff reportedly spotted the duo wearing balaclavas and carrying parachutes as they scaled the 330-metre monument before dawn.

Authorities were alerted and both police and civil defence teams arrived on the scene. The climbers signalled their intent to jump and leapt from the tower around 6:00 a.m. local time (4:00 GMT).

Police arrested both men after they landed safely. A third individual, who remained on the ground near the tower but did not participate in the climb, was also detained.

The Eiffel Tower, completed in 1889 for the Universal Exhibition, is one of the world’s most visited landmarks, drawing roughly seven million visitors annually, with most coming from abroad.
