U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked reaction following remarks about personal security during a recent media exchange at the Oval Office.
While responding to a question from NewsNation reporter Libbey Dean on Thursday, the president was asked whether he would consider wearing a bulletproof vest in light of ongoing security concerns. In response, Trump made light of the suggestion, joking that he would appear significantly heavier if he wore one.
His comment drew laughter from those present, as he added that wearing such protective gear could add an estimated 20 to 25 pounds.
The exchange comes amid reports of a recent alleged assassination attempt involving a suspect identified as Cole Tomas Allen. Authorities have indicated that the individual is facing multiple charges, including attempting to assassinate a sitting president.
This incident follows previous threats against Trump, including a past situation in which he sustained an injury during a shooting.
Despite the seriousness of the circumstances, the president’s remarks introduced a moment of levity during the discussion on security measures.
