St. Catherine, Jamaica — Police have cordoned off a section of Mandela Highway near the entrance to Portmore as investigators examine the scene of a fatal shooting that unfolded during Friday morning traffic.
Preliminary reports indicate the incident occurred shortly after 7:00 a.m. A dashcam recording timestamped 7:12 a.m. captured the moment a motorcycle carrying two men approached a silver utility vehicle that had stopped at traffic lights.
The footage shows the pillion rider opening fire at the driver’s side of the van. Following the gunshots, the vehicle veered off the roadway and came to a stop on an embankment nearby.
Law enforcement personnel remain at the location gathering evidence and managing the flow of vehicles. The attack has resulted in significant traffic congestion along the busy corridor.
Additional surveillance footage from the Six Miles area reveals slow-moving traffic stretching from Washington Boulevard and Spanish Town Road in St. Andrew, with motorists inching toward Spanish Town as delays persist.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the victim, and investigations into the shooting are ongoing.
