Manchester, Jamaica – Two men, including a truck driver, were rushed to hospital in serious condition after the vehicle they were travelling in overturned along the Winston Jones Highway on Thursday morning.
The incident occurred around 10:00 a.m., as the truck was descending the hill when it reportedly developed mechanical problems and crashed off the roadway, flipping over.
Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene.
“We were on our way coming down the hill and the truck driver was shouting, ‘Take way uno self!’ Next thing we saw was pure smoke under the truck, and then it pass us. We never knew it would mash up,” one motorist told reporters at the scene.
“If traffic was coming down at that moment, it would have been chaos. We would have plenty deaths. But thank God,” he added.
Another shaken motorist likened the crash to a natural disaster, saying:
“Mi never see when it crash, but it was like a hurricane pass through. Total disaster. The truck mash up completely.”
Passersby sprang into action, pulling the injured men from the wreckage. Police officers later transported them to hospital, while firefighters also responded to the scene.
The men are reportedly in serious but stable condition as investigations continue into what caused the mechanical failure.
