Trelawny Lifeguard Charged After Allegedly Burglarizing Guest Villa

Trelawny, Jamaica – A lifeguard is now facing criminal charges after he allegedly broke into a villa in the parish and made off with personal items belonging to guests.

The accused has been identified as 38-year-old Anthony Maragh, of Carey Park district in Duncans, Trelawny. He has been slapped with charges of burglary and larceny stemming from an incident on the night of July 19.

Reports out of the Falmouth Police Division indicate that around 11:30 p.m., a woman and two teenagers, who were staying at the villa, locked up for the night and retired to bed. But their peace was soon disturbed.

The woman told police she was awakened by someone in the room, and when she opened her eyes, she saw a man rummaging through her belongings. She raised an alarm, prompting the intruder to flee the scene through the kitchen door.

Other guests at the villa also discovered they had been robbed — with several valuables including laptop computers, mobile phones, and bank cards reported missing.

Lawmen launched an investigation and reviewed CCTV footage, which reportedly identified Maragh as the suspect.

The accused later turned himself in to police and was formally charged.

His court date has not yet been finalized.
