St Catherine Engineer Drowns After Car Plunges Into Rio Cobre

St. Catherine, Jamaica – The Bog Walk police in St Catherine have launched an investigation into the tragic death of a mechanical engineer who drowned after his vehicle plunged into the Rio Cobre on Tuesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 58-year-old Garfield Batts, a mechanical engineer of Lot 118 Saint Rose, Green Acres, St Catherine.

Reports reaching McKoy’s News are that about 7:45 a.m. on July 30, Batts was travelling along the Bog Walk Gorge when he reportedly lost control of his vehicle, which veered off the roadway and ended up in the Rio Cobre.

The vehicle plunged into the river, and Batts is believed to have encountered difficulties escaping, leading to him drowning.

His body was later recovered by authorities and transported to a nearby funeral home, where it is being held pending a post-mortem examination.

Police investigations are ongoing.
