Traffic into Kingston along the Junction main road in St Mary has been brought to a halt following a significant landslide near Broadgate.
The incident occurred early Tuesday after intense rainfall destabilised the hillside, sending debris onto the roadway and toppling a large tree across the thoroughfare. The obstruction has rendered the road impassable to all vehicles.
Member of Parliament for South Eastern St Mary, Christopher Brown, confirmed that the National Works Agency and the police have been notified. He said arrangements are being made to deploy the necessary machinery to clear the area and restore access as quickly as possible.
In the meantime, motorists travelling from Annotto Bay towards Kingston are being urged to divert through Richmond, Rock River and Scott’s Hall, exiting at Grandy Hole.
Drivers heading in the opposite direction—from Kingston to Annotto Bay and nearby communities—should also use the Grandy Hole route, continuing through Scott’s Hall, Rock River and Richmond before proceeding to Highgate, Port Maria or Annotto Bay.
Authorities are advising motorists to exercise caution and follow all posted instructions while cleanup operations are underway
