Waverly, Tennessee — Authorities in Humphreys County are investigating an apparent quadruple murder-suicide after a nurse and her two young sons and grandmother were found dead inside a residence earlier this week, officials said.
Deputies with the Humphreys County Sheriff’s Office responded to a welfare check at a home on East Little Richland Road on January 2. Inside, they discovered four deceased individuals: a 32-year-old woman, identified by authorities as a nurse practitioner; her two sons, ages 4 and 13; and her 88-year-old grandmother.
Investigators believe the woman fatally shot her children and grandmother before taking her own life. Officials reported no signs of forced entry and said they do not believe anyone else was involved.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no danger to the public,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
Authorities have not released a motive, noting that there were no prior calls to the home related to domestic violence or known mental-health emergencies. Autopsies are pending, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The deaths have sent shockwaves through the small community. Friends and relatives described the children as bright and loving, and neighbors expressed disbelief over the tragedy.
The children’s father has publicly shared his grief and has organized fundraising efforts to assist with funeral and related expenses.
Officials urged anyone struggling with mental health challenges or emotional distress to seek help, emphasizing that support resources are available locally and nationally.
Further details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
