Three Men Freed In 2016 Denham Town Murder Case

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Three men who were charged in connection with the 2016 shooting death of a man in Denham Town, Kingston, were freed in the Home Circuit Court on Wednesday after the sole eyewitness failed to appear for trial.

Orlando Logan, otherwise called “Jim Brown,” Davian Newman, alias “Deedie,” and Norris Brown, otherwise called “Gunsmoke,” all of Blount Street addresses, had been charged with murder, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

The deceased has been identified as 33-year-old Nordel Parkes, also of Blount Street, Denham Town.

When the matter came before Justice Leighton Pusey on Wednesday, the sole eyewitness was absent from court.

The attorneys representing the accused subsequently applied for a dismissal, which was granted by the court, resulting in the men being freed.

It was alleged that around 12:30 p.m. on October 17, 2016, Parkes was sitting on a wall along Blount Street when he was approached by three gunmen who shot him.

Parkes was found beneath a mango tree with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched, which eventually led to the men being charged.

The accused were represented by attorneys Donahue Martin, Patrick Peterkin, Ayisha Robb-Cunningham and Shamar Hanson.
