$2.6 million cash purchase

Three Charged Over $2.6 Million Cash Purchase Of Toyota Mark X

The police in St Catherine have charged two people and a Manchester businessman with breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA) in connection with the cash purchase of a Toyota Mark X motor car.

Charged are 35-year-old Mekicia McGill and 19-year-old Marlon McDonald, who are accused of purchasing the vehicle for $2.6 million in cash. The law prohibits cash transactions exceeding $1 million.

Manchester businessman Paul Hugh Davis is accused of facilitating the transaction.

All three were charged on Saturday with prohibited cash transaction, identity information, and conspiracy.

According to the police, an intelligence-driven operation was conducted on August 28, 2026, during which the Toyota Mark X, with three occupants aboard, was intercepted in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

The police said officers requested the vehicle’s documents to establish ownership and obtain other relevant information.

During the checks, inconsistencies were reportedly detected regarding how the vehicle was purchased and the amount of cash used in the transaction.

The investigation subsequently took the police to Mandeville, Manchester, where Davis was interviewed and arrested.

Police said their investigations revealed that McDonald and McGill had paid Davis $2.6 million for the Mark X and that a receipt was issued for the transaction.

All three were subsequently charged with breaches of POCA.

A court date is being finalised.
