Three people were killed and three others remain hospitalized in serious condition following a tragic car crash along the Whitehall main road in St. Mary early Sunday morning.
According to police reports, the accident occurred around 3 a.m. when a gray Honda Stream traveling in one direction lost control and collided with a beige Toyota Corolla traveling in the opposite direction.
Emergency responders rushed all six occupants of the vehicles to the Port Maria Hospital. Three individuals were pronounced dead upon arrival, while the other three were admitted in critical condition.
Reports indicate that the deceased were returning home from a wake. Among the victims was a student of Carron Hall High School.
The identities of the deceased have not been officially released as authorities work to notify their families.
The Port Maria police have launched an investigation to determine the circumstances that led to the crash, including whether speeding or other factors contributed to the tragedy.
