A police operation in Sheffield, Westmoreland, on Friday afternoon ended in the fatal shooting of three men reportedly linked to praedial larceny.
The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Reagan McIntosh, 27-year-old Devonte Chase, and a third individual whose identity has not yet been confirmed.
According to police reports, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers assigned to an operational team were conducting patrols in the Negril area when they received intelligence about a silver Toyota Corolla allegedly carrying armed individuals involved in the theft of livestock.
While traveling along Bowen main road, the vehicle was spotted heading in the direction of Negril and was signaled to stop. The driver complied; however, during the encounter, one of the occupants reportedly discharged a firearm at the police.
Law enforcement officers responded, leading to an exchange of gunfire. When the shooting ended, the three men were found inside the motor vehicle with gunshot injuries.
Investigators reported that one of the men was holding a black Taurus pistol loaded with a magazine containing two 9mm cartridges, while another was found with a .38 revolver containing six rounds. Authorities also recovered three goats from the trunk of the vehicle.
The injured men were transported by police to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, where they were pronounced dead. No injuries were reported among the police personnel involved.
Senior officers, along with representatives from the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), visited the scene as inquiries continue.
