Teen Boy Drowns in Portland River Amid Heavy Rains

Portland, Jamaica – Sunday, A teenage boy is suspected to have drowned while swimming in the Caenwood River in western Portland on Sunday afternoon, as the parish continues to experience heavy rainfall and rising water levels.

Reports indicate that the boy entered the river around noon, despite the water being in spate due to ongoing torrential rains. Portland has been lashed by downpours for the past three days, causing several rivers to overflow their banks and prompting safety concerns across the region.

Emergency services were alerted and launched a search effort. The boy’s body was later recovered and has since been transported to a morgue.

Authorities are urging residents to avoid rivers and flood-prone areas as adverse weather conditions continue. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
