Heather Dillon, a 67-year-old Jamaican missionary from Ocho Rios, St Ann, was among three people who lost their lives in a tragic bus accident in rural Ghana last week.
Dillon had been in Ghana since October, serving as a training facilitator for Operation Mobilization (OM), a global Christian organization dedicated to community service and faith-based outreach. At the time of the accident, she was travelling from Tamale to Kumasi when the private bus, carrying 15 passengers, crashed while overtaking vehicles on a narrow road. Two other missionaries—one from Sierra Leone and another from Ghana—also died in the incident.
Dillon’s missionary work had taken her to South Africa prior to her time in Ghana. In Jamaica, she was known for her contributions in education, having taught at The Mico University College and later working at HEART Trust/NTA in an executive capacity. Her academic journey included Ocho Rios Primary School, St Hilda’s Diocesan High School, and The University of the West Indies.
Her death has deeply impacted the Operation Mobilization community worldwide, as well as her family and the many individuals whose lives she touched through her ministry and dedication to service.
