Police have detained four individuals following the fatal stabbing of a taxi operator during an early-morning dispute in Runaway Bay, St Ann.
The deceased has been identified as 49-year-old Paul Anthony Miller, otherwise called “Doggie,” of Mount Edgecombe in Runaway Bay. Investigators say Miller was involved in an altercation with the four suspects—three men and a woman—shortly before he was stabbed.
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred sometime after 1:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 14, in the parking area of the popular Truck Stop in the Salem/Runaway Bay area. Miller was reportedly attending a large birthday celebration at the location when a dispute developed.
According to information received, the suspects, who were travelling together in a silver Toyota Axio and were also at the event, were leaving when their vehicle collided with Miller’s Toyota Probox. An argument reportedly followed and escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Miller was stabbed in the neck and collapsed.
After the incident, the four suspects fled the scene in their vehicle. However, a short distance away—just over half a mile west along the main road—the car crashed into two light poles near Cardiff Hall, close to the Runaway Bay police station.
Police responded and transported the occupants of the crashed vehicle to the St Ann’s Bay Hospital, where they were admitted for treatment. One of the individuals was reported to be in serious condition.
The four suspects remain in police custody as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding Miller’s death.
