Kingston, Jamaica – Renowned dancehall deejay Danny English, best known for his iconic hit “Party Time” with Egg Nog, passed away on Thursday evening at the Kingston Public Hospital. He was 54 years old.
English, a veteran of the Jamaican music scene, succumbed to complications from diabetes after a prolonged battle with the illness.
Born Donald Cox in Kingston, English’s musical journey began during his teenage years at Camperdown High School. He was heavily influenced by legendary artists such as Shabba Ranks, Buju Banton, and Beres Hammond.
English’s career soared in 2002 with the release of “Party Time” on the Diwali rhythm, solidifying his place alongside Egg Nog as a prominent figure in the dancehall scene. Although they were not an official duo, their unique musical chemistry captivated audiences worldwide.
Despite a later falling out, English and Egg Nog reunited in 2018, releasing songs like “Nuh Bother Pick Up the Gun Tonight” in an attempt to recapture the magic of their earlier collaboration.
Danny English leaves behind a rich musical legacy, having performed at major festivals like Sumfest, Sting, and Irie Jamboree. He toured extensively, captivating audiences across the globe, from London and Birmingham to Japan and Canada. He is survived by 23 children.
