ST. ELIZABETH, Jamaica – The St Elizabeth police have charged 22-year-old Daniel Francis, otherwise called ‘Cuttie,’ with the murder of 20-year-old teacher Iyanla Hicks, also known as ‘Britney.’ The tragic incident occurred on February 7 in Sunny Heights, Thornton district.
According to reports from the Black River police, between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on the day of the incident, one of Hicks’ relatives went to visit her at home and encountered Francis, who stated that Hicks was inside a locked bedroom. Suspicious, the relative went to the side of the house and looked through a window, only to discover Hicks lying motionless in a pool of blood.
The police were immediately alerted. Upon their arrival, Hicks was found on the floor, lying on her back. The scene was processed, and her body was removed for further examination.
Following investigations, Francis was taken into custody. On February 10, he reportedly gave a caution statement admitting to the crime and was subsequently charged with murder.
His court date is currently being finalized. Investigators continue to gather evidence as the community grapples with the shocking loss of the young educator.
