Holness Appoints Three New Senators Amid Senate Reshuffle

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced the appointment of three new Senators to fill vacant seats on the Government side of the Upper House.

Medical doctor Elon Thompson, senior adviser in the Ministry of Tourism Delano Seiveright, and communications specialist Marlon Morgan have been selected to join the Senate, following the resignations of Ransford Braham, Matthew Samuda, and Delroy Williams.

In a media release on Wednesday, the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) confirmed that Holness has written to Governor-General Sir Patrick Allen, formally recommending the appointments.

Dr. Elon Thompson is a medical doctor specializing in Urology. He is currently employed with the South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) and leads the Urology service at the Spanish Town Hospital. He also practices privately across Kingston, Portmore, and Mandeville. Thompson previously served as president of the Jamaica Medical Doctors Association from 2016 to 2020 and is affiliated with multiple professional associations, including the Jamaica Urological Society and the American Urological Association.

Marlon Morgan is a communications specialist with over 15 years of experience in public policy. He has served as a director on the boards of key institutions such as the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), HEART/NSTA Trust, Agro-Investment Corporation, and the Spectrum Management Authority. Morgan was also a senior aide to Holness in 2016 and later worked as a senior advisor in the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture & Fisheries. A former vice president of the Jamaica Labour Party’s young professional group, Generation 2000 (G2K), he has played a significant role in shaping public discourse.

Delano Seiveright is a public policy strategist with extensive experience in tourism development, corporate communications, and stakeholder engagement. As Senior Advisor to Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, Seiveright has been instrumental in modernizing and expanding Jamaica’s tourism sector. He has also held leadership roles in various youth and professional organizations, including serving as the youngest president of Generation 2000 (G2K).

Holness emphasized that the appointments reflect his administration’s commitment to effective leadership and governance.

“The Senate plays a critical role in our democracy, ensuring the thorough review and passage of legislation that impacts the lives of all Jamaicans. I have strategically selected these professionals because of the immense expertise they bring to Jamaica. I have every confidence they will uphold the highest standards of public service, contribute meaningfully to the legislative process, and, ultimately, accelerate Jamaica’s development,” said Holness.

The new Senators are expected to play a key role in advancing the government’s legislative agenda and contributing to national development.
