St. Catherine, Jamaica – A taxi operator was shot and killed, and his male passenger critically injured, after their vehicle came under gunfire from a gunman on a motorcycle along Old Harbour Road in St Catherine this afternoon.
The deadly attack occurred around 4:10 p.m. near a church along the busy roadway. According to police reports, the taxi was travelling with the passenger when a man on a motorcycle rode up beside the vehicle and opened fire, hitting both occupants multiple times.
The wounded men were rushed to the Spanish Town Hospital, where the taxi operator was pronounced dead. The passenger remains hospitalised in unstable condition.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and investigators have not yet established a motive for the attack.
A police manhunt is now underway to apprehend the shooter. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the Spanish Town Police or Crime Stop at 311.
The incident has heightened concerns over gun violence in the area and the safety of public transport operators.
