Spanish Town, St. Catherine – A pall of grief has descended over Spanish Town following the brutal murder of nine-year-old Kelsey Ferrigon at her home on Job Lane. Police have launched a major investigation into the heinous crime, which occurred on Friday, and have named a person of interest in the case.
According to police reports, Kelsey’s partially naked body was discovered at approximately 8:00 pm inside a barrel at her residence. Preliminary investigations suggest the young girl had been beaten, and detectives are also theorising that she was sexually assaulted.
The Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) has identified Giovanni Ellis, also known as ‘Coolie Man’, as a person of interest in this disturbing incident. Authorities are urging Ellis to report to the Spanish Town Police immediately to assist with their inquiries.
The Head of the CIB, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Wayne Josephs, expressed the profound shock and outrage felt within the police force and across the nation. “The brutal assault and murder of Kelsey has sent shockwaves through our entire force and I’m sure throughout Jamaica,” stated ACP Josephs. “We are utilising every single resource at our disposal – our investigators, our forensic teams, our intelligence networks – to relentlessly pursue and apprehend the monster responsible for this act.”
ACP Josephs emphasized the unwavering commitment of the police to bring the perpetrator to justice. “We owe it to Kelsey, her family, and every child in Jamaica to bring this individual to justice swiftly,” he added.
The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has issued a strong condemnation of this “criminal act” and has reiterated its dedication to pursuing anyone who threatens the safety and well-being of citizens, particularly children.
The police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating Giovanni Ellis. Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to contact the Spanish Town Criminal Investigations Branch at 876-984-2305, the National Intelligence Bureau at 811, Crime Stop at 311, or the police 119 emergency number.
This tragic incident follows a report of a missing University of Technology (UTech) student, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and security within the parish.
