St. Andrew, Jamaica – A man identified as Kemar Lewis was fatally shot during an alleged confrontation with police around 4:00 a.m. on Friday in the Salisbury Plain area of St Andrew.
According to police reports, law enforcement officers were engaged in an operation in the community when they came under fire. During the reported exchange, Lewis was shot. A firearm was reportedly recovered from the scene following the incident.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is expected to launch a probe into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Lewis’ death marks the 116th fatal shooting involving police since the beginning of the year, a figure that continues to raise public concern about the use of deadly force by law enforcement.
