KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Central Kingston Police are appealing to the public for assistance in locating a man believed to be involved in the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old shopkeeper known only as Tashna, who was gunned down at her place of work in the Rose Gardens community on Saturday, May 3.
Ranking, who operated a shop on Wildman Street in the area commonly known as “Spoilas,” was attacked around 8:15 p.m. She was transported by residents to hospital for treatment but succumbed to her injuries on the morning of Thursday, May 8.
The fatal shooting was captured on CCTV footage, which shows a man entering the shop and engaging in what appeared to be a routine transaction. During the interaction, a child and another customer entered the store, while another child stood just outside. Moments later, the man opened fire on Ranking, striking her multiple times in the abdomen.
As he fled the scene, the gunman reportedly discharged his weapon in the opposite direction, further endangering residents in the densely populated community.
Investigators believe Ranking may have been deliberately targeted due to a dispute involving a relative. They are urging anyone with information on the identity or whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.
The police have not yet released the name of the individual seen in the footage but say efforts are ongoing to track him down.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Central Kingston Police or Crime Stop at 311.
