Los Angeles, CA — A new legal battle may be brewing between Kanye West and Kim Kardashian after the rapper accused his ex-wife of violating their custody agreement and exploiting their daughter, North West, during this week’s Met Gala in New York City.
West, through his attorney Kathy Johnson, sent a cease and desist letter to Kardashian’s longtime lawyer, Laura Wasser, raising concerns about the welfare of their four children: North, 11; Saint, 8; Chicago, 6; and Psalm, 5.
In the letter, West alleges that Kardashian left North unattended in a vehicle for parts of the Met Gala event, calling the move irresponsible and dangerous. The child, who accompanied her mother to the high-profile fashion gala, was reportedly waiting in a car while Kardashian posed on the red carpet.
This allegation is one of three major claims outlined in West’s legal notice. He also accuses Kardashian of exploiting North for “personal or commercial gain” by continuing to share images and videos of her online — specifically on TikTok — despite his repeated objections. West argues that this violates their 2021 divorce settlement, which grants them joint custody and equal decision-making rights.
Additionally, West claims he has been denied “meaningful access” to his children. According to the letter, he hasn’t seen Saint at all in 2025 and has had “unreasonably restricted” time with North, Chicago, and Psalm. That claim, however, has been challenged by public images of West spending time with three of his children during a trip to Japan in January.
Sources close to Kardashian pushed back on the accusations, telling reporters that Kanye has made minimal effort to see the children this year and has never been denied access when he has asked.
The cease and desist letter threatens legal action if Kardashian does not comply with West’s demands, signaling a potential return to court over custody arrangements. It also names Bianca Censori, West’s current wife, as being represented by the same attorney, though her role in the dispute remains unclear.
Kim Kardashian and Kanye West officially divorced in 2021 after seven years of marriage. As part of the agreement, West pays $200,000 a month in child support.
Representatives for both West and Kardashian have yet to issue formal public sttements.
