St James, Jamaica — A chef from St James has been charged with robbery with aggravation following an incident at a business place along Jimmy Cliff Boulevard in Montego Bay on Tuesday, July 15.
The accused has been identified as 24-year-old Rayando Riley, of Rose Heights, Montego Bay, who is also said to be a barber.
Reports from the Barnett Street Police are that about 3:45 a.m., Riley and another man approached the female complainant at her place of business. Riley allegedly told her he was armed with a gun and demanded money.
A scuffle ensued between the two, during which Riley reportedly punched the woman several times in the face before stealing a half carton of cigarettes valued at $6,300.
While fleeing the scene, a cellphone reportedly fell from a bag Riley was carrying. The phone was handed over to the police when the incident was reported.
Riley later called the phone and was instructed to come to the station to retrieve it. When he arrived, he was positively identified by the complainant and taken into custody.
He has since been charged with robbery with aggravation, and his court date is being finalised.
