St Catherine Woman Charged in $1.2M Car Sale Scam

ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A 24-year-old woman has been charged with obtaining money by false pretense after allegedly scamming a buyer out of nearly J$1.2 million in a bogus car sale.

Selena Green, of Lakeland, Greendale in St Catherine, is accused of collecting J$1,185,000 from a complainant on Sunday, April 20, under the pretense that she was selling a motor vehicle from her father’s car mart.

However, when the vehicle failed to materialise, the complainant reported the matter to the police. An investigation revealed that Green had no vehicle to sell and was not employed at any car mart—or anywhere at all.

Following the probe, Green was arrested and later charged with obtaining money by false pretense.

A court date is being finalised.
