St. Catherine, Jamaica: Teacher Who Murdered Parents Awaits Sentencing – A St. Catherine teacher who was arrested and charged with murdering his own mother and father has been ordered to return to court on October 4th for sentencing after appearing before the St. Catherine Circuit Court on Friday.
The accused teacher, Simeon Ramsay, has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia.
Reports indicate that at about 4:00 a.m. on February 4, 2022, Ramsay allegedly attacked and stabbed both his parents, 55-year-old Phyllis Ramsay and 59-year-old Winston Ramsay, to death.
Ramsay reportedly committed the act at their family home in Christian Meadows, Portmore, St. Catherine. He then drove away from the scene but lost control of his vehicle and crashed in Phoenix Park.
He was held and subsequently arrested, after which he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
During his court appearance, his attorney, who presented evidence of his mental disorders, requested that his sentencing be postponed to allow for his medical report to be added to his case file.
The request was granted by Justice Bertram Morrison.
