St Andrew, Jamaica – The St Andrew North Police are probing the murder of an 18-year-old sixth-form student who was gunned down inside her family’s Smokey Vale home early Monday morning.
Reports are that about 1:40 a.m., an intruder broke into the residence and began ransacking rooms. The teen, who attended a prominent Kingston high school, reportedly stepped out of her bedroom and came face-to-face with the gunman. He shot her in the head before fleeing the scene.
Relatives rushed the wounded student to hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Superintendent Randy Sweeney, head of the St Andrew North Police Division, confirmed the tragic incident and said investigators are following several leads. He is urging anyone with information to contact the Constant Spring CIB at 876-924-1421, Crime Stop at 311, or the nearest police station.
Police have increased patrols in the area as they continue their search for the suspect.
