Clarendon, Jamaica – Detectives in Clarendon are investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of a train gate operator at a railway crossing in the parish early Saturday morning.
The deceased has been identified as 35-year-old Vincent Clarke, a train gatekeeper of Gravel Hill District, Milk River.
Reports are that about 3:20 a.m., Clarke was on duty at the railway crossing along with a co-worker. After closing the gates to allow a train to pass, Clarke was reportedly approached by two men who opened fire. He attempted to flee but was chased and shot multiple times. His colleague managed to escape unhurt.
The gunmen fled the scene, leaving Clarke suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The shooting forced an abrupt halt to operations at the crossing, as there was no staff available to manage the gates when the train returned.
Police were alerted, and on arrival discovered Clarke’s body along a dirt track several metres from the train gate. He was transported to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The Clarendon Police are appealing to anyone with information that may assist in their investigation to contact them or call Crime Stop at 311.
