CLARENDON, Jamaica — A tense manhunt is underway in Spalding, Clarendon, after a shootout between police and armed robbers left a law enforcement officer injured on Sunday.
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident occurred shortly before 2:00 p.m., when police officers responded to an armed robbery at a supermarket in Spalding. Upon arrival, the officers reportedly came under heavy gunfire from a group of gunmen, resulting in a shootout.
During the exchange, a policeman was wounded, and an AK-47 rifle was later recovered at the scene, according to police sources.
The situation escalated as the suspects reportedly fled and barricaded themselves inside a nearby building. Firefighters have been called in to assist law enforcement in gaining access to the structure. While it remains unclear if any hostages are involved, police have assured the public that all necessary precautions are being taken.
